Heathside promoted to SAL top division

The big news this week is that our runners, throwers and jumpers have excelled by being promoted to the Southern Athletics top division for the first time. Our club chairman Jerry Odlin described it as a ‘great achievement’ and congratulated team managers Richard Macaulay and Lily Woolcock for their ‘excellent team management’ and also thanked the athletes, coaches, officials and supporters for their ‘consistent effort this season’. Male team manager Richard described it as a ‘massive win for Heathside’ after a ‘fantastic season’.

Southern Athletics League, Match 4, Ware, Saturday August 7

Simon Baker reports:  The sun shone on Saturday with our seniors taking on the last Southern Athletics Meeting of the year with promotion still in our hands but with both Dacorum and Woodford just 1 pt behind only a win would guarantee our first ever season in the First Division.

With the coach full to bursting, expectations were high heading up the A10 to Ware and with good reason as the team, a blend of young athletes, masters and seniors blew away the competition to win by 60 points, almost 100 if you disregard Herts Pheonix who we are paired with.

There were 15 event wins:- Carlos Mingoes (100m), Leon Seale (200m & 400m), George Warren (800m), Yann Sevestre (2000mSC), Trey Corlis (HJ), Prithvi Raj Sharma (TJ), Izzy Watkins (800m), Lily Woolcock (1500m), Rebecca Piggott (5000m), Genevieve Weston (1500mSC), Asia Emanuel (LJ), Jeanne Vellard (SP), Elkie Baker (DT), Men's 4x100m and Mixed 4x400m.  The club managed clean sweeps in both A and B strings in 10 events SM 100m, 2000mSC and HJ and SW 800m, 1500m, 5000m, 1500mSC, SP and DT.  We won both mixed 4x400m relays.

A brilliant effort from all involved; team managers Richard Macaulay and Lily Woolcock, the club coaches officials and the athletes who have put so much effort into this season.
