Indoors to 13.1 miles in low-key Easter race weekend

The Easter weekend seems to have been a relatively quiet one for racing based on results feedback so far, but we had Heathsiders putting themselves through the paces over distances ranging from 60m indoors to 13.1 miles in preparation of the outdoor track season or marathons, or with other worthy targets in mind.

Sarah ran 83:46 to claim third in the Richmond 13.1 on Sunday to account for our highest placing of the weekend as she and so many others rev up for the spring marathon season starting next weekend. As an aside, the Richmond run is coded HMNAD by Power of 10, with the NAD standing for “Near as Dammit” in the absence of the distance being officially measured. Personally I had no idea ... (and maybe I'm falling for a joke)

Young athlete Darnell forged ahead with his indoor season with some quality results at Lee Valley, and Hasan rubbed shoulders (maybe only at the start line) with running celebrity at a Bushy Park parkrun that featured Julia Bleasdale. Dan tried hard to pace a 6:30min/mile Folkestone 10 on Good Friday as marathon prep, but ended up with a speedier 62:25min instead.  Because no-one tells it like Dan does, I give you these snippets in verbatim:

“Mile one: missed the marker. Oops.

Mile two: 12:30 for first two miles. D'oh.

Mile three: 6:15. Damn.

Mile four: 6:29. Woo hoo!

Mile five: 6:21. Blast it!

At this point, we turned around and had a tailwind. After 8.5 miles, I decided to give up and chase down the guy who'd overtaken me two miles previously. Although my pacing was crap, it was good to try running an event with a bit of discipline and not going nuts.”

Barbara mentioned that some of the chip times for the Maidenhead 10 that she, George and Nick did on Easter Sunday were wrong, or at least hers was. She recorded 1:22:01 and not the 1:20:15, but that unfortunately had to include some walking time after the cold air triggered her asthma. So many reasons for the warmer climes to get on with it!
