UYDL Division 2B, Guildford, 25.6.23
If one match on weekend is not enough Israel took a group of his athletes to Guildford to compete in the UYDL a league for U17 and U20 athletes as a last runout before the English Schools.
Unfortunately bad traffic meant a late arrival and missing the 100m except for Thomas Wassermann who recorded PB. Wins were recorded for Marcel (U20M Javelin), Trey (U17M 100mH), Imani (U17W 80mH) and Magdeline (U17W 200m and 300m) the latter being a new club record.

Kong Ultra, Cumbria, 24.6.23
Rebecca Marshall sent in the report about this race she competed in on Saturday:
Billed as a 'beautifully brutal journey', the 40 mile Kong Ultra (short route) didn't fail to deliver. The race starts and finishes in Keswick and visits a predetermined list of peaks: Cat Bells, High Spy, Great Gable, Esk Pike, Rossett Pike, High Raise, Helvellyn and Clough Head. When I originally signed up for the race it was supposed to be a marked course but that had been changed to self-navigation with the obligatory map and compass.
Who knew the Lake District has a tropical rainforest climate? Setting off up the first summit Cat Bells in sauna-like conditions, 89% humidity, wasn't quite what I had expected. That quickly turned to claggy conditions with low visibility, wet rocks to climb and ascend. There were a low number of participants on the short route and on the second leg I found myself on my own. After a few navigational difficulties, wading through fast flowing streams to get myself back on track and almost disappearing into deep bogs, I'd decided once I reached check point 2 at Thirlmere that I'd call it a day there. I didn't want to continue, trying to navigate my way round tricky terrain in the dark on my own.
I arrived there at 6pm and was greeted by a chirpy marshal saying 'hey you're doing so well, you've got 2 hours in the bag before the cut off time'. Well that threw a spanner in the works and I collapsed into a camping chair to deliberate whether or not to continue to the end. After inhaling a cheese and pickle sandwich, my first real food since my breakfast porridge at 6am in the morning, and hearing that the worst of it was over as the climb up to Helvellyn was not as bad as what I had just done in the previous leg, I decided that I would continue on. I retrieved my Hoka trail shoes from my drop bag (not really complying with the mandatory fell shoes rule) and put them on. It felt like putting on a pair of old slippers. They got me comfortably around the next 17 miles to the end, arriving back at Keswick football club in just under 17 hours. An epic day out, proving to the locals that Londoners can climb mountains too!
