Last Saturday saw the much-anticipated final cross-country race in the Met league in Trent Park. Rainy conditions during the weeks beforehand led to conditions which were described as horrific. They were possibly the worst ever seen in the Met league, with runners having to try to plough through long sections of heavy mud in addition to the usual hills.

Despite the conditions, there was a good turnout in both the junior and senior races.

In the juniors race, top runners included Amy Kirk (3rd U15), Charlie Nicolson (3rd U13 boys) and George Saint (4th U17). The junior women (A team) did particularly well, finishing 1st in both the race and in the series. The U13 boys also did very well, finishing 3rd in the series.

In the senior womens race, Rebecca Bunting led Heathsiders home to come second, followed closely by Rebecca Piggott. Overall Heathside women finished first in the race and also won the series, with Rebecca Piggott also winning the individual title. Rebecca Bunting, Sarah Swinhoe and Caroline White also came first in their age categories.

In the mens race, George Gurney lead Heathsiders home, finishing 5th overall, followed by James Wooldridge. Overall, Heathside men finished in 3rd in both the race and the season, with Martin Potter and Bob Gould finishing first in their age categories.
