2nd Overall in MYAL and Helena competes in Germany
The Club’s Juniors secured 2nd Place in the MYAL at a soggy Parliament Hill on Saturday. Elsewhere Helena Stone competed in Germany and Tom Archer in the BMC World Challenger Series
International Open, Heimspiel Leverkusen, 7.7.24
Club Para-Athlete Helena Stone, who is ranked UK No1 in her category, sent in a report from her competition in Germany
Delighted to say I have been competing in my first international 100m today at Heimspiel leverkusen (Germany) wearing my heathside vest! Racing alongside some of the best para athletes in the world.
Heimspiel (home games) is considered to be one of the best para-athletics meets outside of a championship / paralympics. With a world class field particuarly in the amputee classifications.
Very happy to come away having matched my PB in the first round and ran a PB(wind) in the second.
I head to Birmingham for the Senior English National Championships in a couple of weeks having qualified to compete in the para-ambulant race.
MYAL 4#, Parliament Hill, 6.7.24
The MYAL reached its climax with the 4th meeting held at Parliament Hill. Unfortunately the weather provided its own challenges although it became sunnier as the day progressed. Numbers also thinned as kick off to England’s Euro Match approached.
The club consolidated its 2nd place overall by again securing 2nd place on the day behind SBH who retain the title they won for the first time last year. The U15G won their age group with the U11G, U11B, U13B, U15B and U17W all 2nd.
There were individual wins for Luke Campbell (U11B LJ), Tahan Dayes (U13B SP), Ivy Paitoo (U15G SP), Adam Chehabeddine (U15B 200m), Gabriel Edwards (U15B 80mH), Amy Kirk (U17W 1500m), Montana Dennis (U17M SP and HT) and the U15G and U17W 4x100m relay teams.
Thanks as always to Team Managers Ruth, Rachel, Mary for their hard work over the season as well as everyone who volunteered to officiate. We hope the young athletes and parents enjoyed taking part which is often their first introduction to the sport.
