Tom Aldred wins the Hyde Park New Year’s Day 10K
It was, not surprisingly, a quietish past week, between Christmas and the New Year, with only a handful of New Year’s events. The big news was that Tom Aldred won the New Year’s Day 10k race in Hyde Park, and many new club records were made at the Lea Valley New Year’s Open.
New Year’s Day 10k and 3K, Hyde Park, 1st Jan 2022
Thirteen Heathsiders took part in the New Years Day 10K in Hyde Park on a picture perfect sunshiny warm day. Tom Aldred sailed in to first place, making it look completely effortless. Christopher Gracie was second Heathsider, followed by Alex Sweet and Jake Spencer. Josie Hinton was the first Heathside lady (coming 5th woman , 4th F35-440) followed by Catrin Tyler (7th woman, and 2nd F20-34). Caroline White was 2nd FV55 and Angela Pollitzer 3rd FV65. Josie, Catrin and Trudy won the women’s team prize. And in the 3K, congratulations to Gregory Sweet who came 2nd – obviously taking after his speedy dad - in a great time of 10.40!

Cursa dels Nassos 10K, Barcelona, 31st Dec 2022
New Heathside runner Jose Sabroso was pleased to run a PB of 35.49 in the New Year’s Eve 10k race Cursa dels Nassos in Barcelona. He is so new he hasn’t yet received his Heathside vest, but he appears in the photo below in the white top. He’s very keen to run in a Heathside vest but hasn’t yet received one - if anyone can help him get one he’d be delighted!

Lea Valley New Year’s Open, Lea Valley, 2nd Jan 2022
Simon Baker reported: “The year started with a bang for the Club's sprinters who headed to Lee Valley despite the weather being nice enough to run outdoors. They showed how well winter training is going by bagging a host of new club records.
Performance of the day goes to Leon Seale (U20M) who in his 200m race ran 21.43s which is a new overall club record just breaking Cian O'Donnell's 21.91s set in 2020. Ella Burridge (U15G) also set a new club record with 28.05s, and not to be outdone Coach Mary broke her own VW55 record.
In the 60m Leon just missed on breaking his own U20M record with 7.07. Cian O'Donnell opened his seasons account with a swift 7.10.”
