Two brave Heathsiders, Andrew Shreeve and Sandra Marie, ventured south of the river to take part in the 2nd Dartford Midnight Marathon. Starting at 8pm, this was an 8-lap course round The Bridge Lakes of Dartford, with a special “I Beat the Midnight Marathon” tee for those finishing before midnight, an all-night tea wagon and no cut-off time (the last finisher came in in just under 6 hours).
Read MoreAt the overcast (read: minging) World Half Marathon Championships in Cardiff, Tom Aldred sizzled through the wind and rain to finish 8th overall in a patch over 67 minutes. We should stress that this was 8th in the "mass race", and that Tom wasn't dishing it out to the national champions of Kenya, Eritrea et al. He was, however, dishing it out to around 12,000 other competitors, among whose number we also had local(ish) talent Leigh and Elinor, and Jonathan and Jessica, who both secured PBs.
Read MoreHeathsiders were out and about all over the country on a blustery weekend, with the main event for the club (in terms of numbers participating) being the Watford Half where some 40 members took part. A small contingent of brave youngsters also braved the unfavourable weather conditions to represent the club at the NW London Young Athlete’s XC League meeting at Harrow

Read MoreA relatively quiet weekend race-wise, with no XC fixtures. The main event for the club was the Stevenage Half, the penultimate event in the Club’s Rob Jackson Road Race Championships, in which Sandra Buckton increased her lead at the top of the Womens, and Robert Bowler picked up some very valuable points to bolster his 2nd position and challenge current leader Andy Barnes in the Mens.
Read MoreThe Heathside net was spread far and wide this weekend, not only geographically (with members taking part in events in Estonia, Hull, Bristol, Cornwall, Essex, Herts, and the big GNR up in Newcastle), but also in type, as Heathsiders competed in Road Running, Multi-discipline, Parkruns, and Track & Field events (with Ruth Miller ensuring the youngsters were ferried to Hayes in West London for a big meet there). While closer to home, 11 took part in the Duathlon on Hampstead Heath, braving the chilly waters of the Mens’ and Womens’ ponds!
Read MoreProbably the best result for Heathsiders was that it was a sunny, warm and dry weekend for a change! A quiet week for racing, with a dearth of competitive events on the calendar, saw more Heathsiders running in Saturday morning Parkruns (36 in total) than in all other events combined. Two members took part in the AJ Bell London Triathlon, and three travelled up to God’s Own County, viz. Yorkshire, to run up hill and down dale in a two-day endurance event. And David Spencer proved that age is just a state of mind by winning his 100m event, in a time only 3 and-a-bit seconds slower than the 38 years younger Usain Bolt’s WR!
Read MoreLondon was deserted (by Heathsiders that is) as members took part in events all over the Country, as well as Ireland (a Parkrun) and France (a cycling event). There was a strong club contingent in the St Alban’s Half, Adam Kirk-Smith stormed the City of London Mile in 4½ minutes (and that after a 3rd place the previous day in the SEAA 5000m final), Andy Barnes was cheated out of a probable top 5 finish in the Rock’n’Roll Liverpool Marathon by a treacherous attack of cramps, and Sarah Swinhoe marked a return to form, following a lengthy run of injuries, with a 3rd Female placing in the Southend Half. David Hellard and Rebecca Bunting also achieved 1st places in their Parkruns. Congratulations to all who took part in events, including the SEAA Championships in Lee Valley.
Read MoreMADNESS! plus Lily Allen, The Kinks, Ralph McTell, Gerry Rafferty - just some of the artistes, to name but a few, who have had hit songs about London, but none of whom (as far as I am aware???) have ever run it - unlike the 48 Heathsiders (at the last count) who started the 35th Virgin Money London Marathon on a fairly cool and drizzly Sunday morning.
