Meanwhile Filipe Cardoso took a different route, along the North Downs way, and reports ;

 North Downs Way 100,                Farnham - Ashford                          5 Aug

 “The NDW100 is a 100 mile ultra marathon that follows the North Downs Way trail from Farnham, Surrey to Ashford, Kent. The event organisers warned us that this event is normally run during a heatwave or a downpour. This year it was the latter for me with storm Antoni looming. This was my first 100 miler attempt and first overnight run.

We started off on runnable trails and everything went well during the first half, despite the stormy weather. However, when night came in, I started suffering from blisters and the trails became more perilous with all the mud. This led to me slowing down. Fortunately, the rain stopped around 2am and the runners at the back got to experience a sunny morning as we made our way to the finish line at the athletics stadium … there was a 70% finish rate and the cut off is 30 hours

 The race was won by Ryan Whelan (17:07:20) who only overtook Joe Ackerley (17:08:47) in the last 2kms. Charlotte Fisher (22:38:49) came in first for the ladies even though this was her first 100 miler.”
